Setup guide

Set up Theatrium Live

Apple Home only, no dashboard and no Home Assistant. Pick your music, add your lights, hit play. It takes about a minute.

Get Theatrium Live

Download Theatrium Live from the App Store on your Apple TV and open it.

Choose your music

Open Settings › Now Playing and pick a source. Apple Music needs no setup and shows whatever is playing. For Last.fm, enter your username. For Sonos, let it find the speakers on your network and pick your room.

Add your lights

Open Settings › Light Groups and set each Apple Home light to Main or Accent. Main lights take the first colour, Accent lights the second. No smart lights? Skip this, the on-screen visuals stand on their own.

Pick your visuals

Open Settings › Visualizations and turn looks on or off. At least one stays on, and the ones you keep rotate as you play.

Play, then tune it on screen

Start the music and step into the full-screen visual. Press your remote to bring up the on-screen controls, then Adjust to set the colour theme, Lighting Sync, brightness and colour, or switch the visual. More on both below.

Light GroupsAssign each Apple Home light to Main or Accent. That is all the lights need.

Change the colour theme

  • While a visual plays, press the remote to show the controls, then open Adjust.
  • Select Theme to step through the colour themes. Each one recolours the screen and your lights together.
  • Themes are Album Art (colours drawn from the cover), plus Sunset, Ocean, Neon, Forest, Aurora, Candy, Fire & Ice and Royal. A named theme gives each track a fresh pair of colours from that family.
  • Adjust also holds Lighting Sync, Brightness and Colour strength.

Switch the visual

  • Bring up the controls and open the visuals menu to jump to another look, or leave it on auto to let them rotate.
  • To set which looks are in the rotation, open Settings › Visualizations and turn each on or off. At least one stays on.
  • Every look reacts to the music, and many are built around your own album art.

What you need

  • An Apple TV running tvOS 18 or later.
  • Music from Apple Music, Last.fm or Sonos.
  • For the lights: an Apple Home with smart lights. Optional, the visuals work on their own.
  • A one-time purchase. No subscription, no account to make.

If something is not right

  • Lights not changing: check they are in the same Apple Home as this Apple TV, set to Main or Accent, and that Lighting Sync is on in Adjust.
  • Colours look steady: that is expected. The lights hold each track’s two colours and change with the song, they do not flash to the beat.
  • No Sonos speakers found: they must be on the same network. Tap Search Again in Now Playing.
  • Nothing playing shows: for Apple Music, start playback on the Apple TV; for Last.fm, check the username; for Sonos, pick the right room.

That’s it.

Your music, full-screen, with the whole room in its colours.
