The Markets card

The main share indexes and exchange rates at a glance.

What it shows

A short board of indexes such as the ASX 200, S&P 500, NASDAQ and FTSE 100, and a currency pair, each with its level and today's change in green or red, with the time of the last update in the corner.

Add the card

Every card is added the same way. If you have done this before, skip ahead.

1. On the dashboard, move to a card you want to replace. Press and hold the center of the remote's pad for about a second. The card dims and a Modify button appears on it.

2. Press the center once to choose Modify. The Choose a card screen opens.

   

3. On the left, choose Information, then move right and choose Markets. (You can also leave the list on All and scroll; cards are in alphabetical order inside each group.)
4. Finish with the Add to Dashboard button (on some cards it reads Add Markets). You return to the dashboard with the new card in place.

Adding your own shares, including Australian ones

The Markets card is a fixed board; you cannot add to it. To follow a share, fund or index of your own, add a Stock card for each one. Australian and other non-US listings work; you just add the exchange's ending to the code.

1. Add a Stock card (it is in the same Information group). See The Stock card.
2. On Choose a symbol, type the code with the exchange ending. For an ASX listing that is .AX, so Vanguard's international shares fund is VGS.AX, Commonwealth Bank is CBA.AX, BHP is BHP.AX. The preview updates as you type; if it shows a price, the code is right.
3. Choose Add to Dashboard. Repeat for each share you want.

Indexes start with a caret (^AXJO is the ASX 200, ^GSPC the S&P 500) and currency pairs end in =X (AUDUSD=X).

Good to know

• The Markets board itself needs nothing set up, nothing pressed and no account.
• Prices can lag the market by some minutes. It is a glance, not a trading screen.
