The Action Button card

FreeWorks with: Home Assistant, Apple HomeAbout 1 minute to set up

Run a scene, script or button with one press.

What it shows

One large button, or a group of up to eight, each running a scene, a script or a button from your smart home. Every button shows its name. Choose one and the whole card is that button. Choose two or more and the card becomes a group, laid out in reading order.

While a button’s command is on its way, the button shows progress and ignores further presses. If it does not go through, the button reads Didn’t work for two seconds and then returns to normal.

If the group has more buttons than fit, the last tile reads +3 more, for example. Select it to show every button, and scroll to reach them.

Add the card

Every card is added the same way. If you have done this before, skip ahead.

  1. On the dashboard, move to a card you want to replace. Press and hold the center of the remote's pad for about a second. The card dims and a Modify button appears on it.
    < TV ▶❚❚ mute +−
Hold the center of the pad on the card you want to change.
  2. Press the center once to choose Modify. The Choose a card screen opens.
    The Choose a card screen
The Choose a card screen. The list down the left side narrows the cards by group.
  3. On the left, choose Home, then move right and choose Action Button. (You can also leave the list on All and scroll; it is in alphabetical order.)
  4. A list of your scenes, scripts and buttons appears. Select the ones you want, in the order you want them. How many you can choose depends on the tile: a small tile takes one button, a larger tile takes a group of up to eight. The list shows your count, such as 2/8 selected, and tells you when you have chosen the most the tile fits. Choose Done.
  5. Finish with the button at the foot of the setup screen, which is named for the card. You return to the dashboard with the new card in place.

Using it every day

  1. With one button, move to the card and press the center. It runs at once; there is nothing to enter first.
  2. With a group, move to the card and press the center to enter it. Move between the buttons with the arrows, and press the center on the one you want. It runs.
  3. Press Back to leave a group.
