Terms of use

Plain English, because terms nobody reads protect nobody. This page covers what Theatrium is, what it is not, and where responsibility sits.

The short version

Theatrium is a display and a remote control for your own smart home. It is provided as-is. It is not a security, medical or care system, and it should never be the only way you know whether something at home is safe. Nothing here takes away rights you have as a consumer.

Who provides Theatrium

Theatrium is an independent app. Buying it, and any refund, is handled by Apple through the App Store under Apple's own terms — we never see your payment details. Theatrium Pro is a one-time purchase shared across your devices — your Apple TV today, and iPhone and iPad when the companion app ships.

Your license

You get a personal, non-exclusive license to use Theatrium on devices you own or control. You may not resell it, rent it out, or attempt to extract its source. Apple's standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement applies alongside this page; where the two conflict, Apple's agreement governs.

What Theatrium is not

This is the most important section on the page.

Theatrium shows information reported by your smart home and by third-party services. That information can be delayed, unavailable, or simply wrong — a network drops, a sensor's battery dies, a camera stops responding, a service changes without notice. Theatrium cannot detect every such failure, and a card showing a door as locked is evidence, not proof.

Theatrium is not a security system, a medical device, an alarm, or a care or safety monitoring system, and must not be relied upon as one. Do not use it as your only means of knowing whether a door is locked, a person is well, a property is secure, or a condition is safe. Always keep a way of checking that does not depend on this app. If you are deploying Theatrium in a care or workplace setting, it is a display alongside your real safety procedures, never a replacement for them.

Flashing lights and photosensitivity

A very small number of people can have seizures triggered by flashing lights or patterns, even with no history of epilepsy. Theatrium's visualisations and Light Sync produce moving, changing light. They are designed to follow the rhythm of music rather than strobe, and color changes fade rather than snap — but if you or anyone in your household has a history of seizures or epilepsy, take care, and stop immediately if anyone feels unwell, disoriented or experiences any involuntary movement.

Screens and burn-in

Pixel Shift, Screen Dimming and the Screensaver are designed to reduce the risk of uneven screen wear by keeping bright, unchanging shapes from resting in one place. They reduce that risk; they cannot eliminate it. No application can prevent burn-in on a susceptible panel. Follow your television manufacturer's guidance, and check what your warranty covers. We cannot be responsible for damage to your display.

Any power figures we publish are estimates for a 65″ OLED, derived from the measured picture level of each screen rather than from a meter on your wall. Your own draw depends on the set, its picture mode and its brightness. The saving is much smaller on an LCD or QLED, where the backlight stays on whatever is displayed.

Your smart home and third-party services

Theatrium connects to systems you control (Home Assistant, Apple Home, your cameras and speakers) and, where you enable them, outside services for weather, news, tempo and similar. Those services set their own terms and can change or withdraw at any time. Theatrium is not responsible for their content, accuracy or availability, and features that depend on them may stop working through no fault of ours. Apple, Apple TV, tvOS, HomeKit and AirPlay are trademarks of Apple Inc. Sonos is a trademark of Sonos, Inc. Home Assistant is a trademark of the Open Home Foundation. Spotify, Plex, Last.fm and Philips Hue are trademarks of their respective owners. Theatrium® is a registered trademark.

These names appear here only to describe what Theatrium connects to. Theatrium is an independent app and is not made, endorsed, sponsored or approved by any of these companies.

No warranty, and the limit of our liability

Theatrium is provided as-is and as-available, without warranty of any kind, express or implied — including any implied warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or uninterrupted or error-free operation.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, loss of data, or loss arising from your reliance on information the app displayed. Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the amount you paid for the app.

Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be excluded — and nothing here affects your statutory rights as a consumer, including your rights under Apple's refund process.

Changes

These terms may change as the app changes. The date at the top of this page shows when they were last revised, and continuing to use Theatrium after a change means accepting the revised terms.
